District 158 board names new Marlowe Middle School principal

The Huntley Community School District 158 school board recently approved hiring Anthony Venetico as the next principal of Marlowe Middle School starting July 1.

He replaces Henry Soltesz who resigned in May after 16 years with the district, the last two as Marlowe's principal. Marlowe assistant principals Rita Castans and Jennifer Fisher have been leading the school in the interim.

The Lake in the Hills school serves more than 1,400 students in sixth through eighth grades from the Huntley and Lake in the Hills area.

Since 2015 Venetico was assistant principal of Carleton Washburne Middle School in Winnetka - a seventh- and eighth-grade building known for its high academic achievement, commitment to student wellness, and strong fine arts and extracurricular activities. He previously was a math teacher at Barrington High School and Notre Dame College Prep in Niles.

"We are thrilled to be welcoming an administrator of Mr. Venetico's caliber to Marlowe," said Scott Rowe, Huntley 158 incoming superintendent. "From our applicant pool, he stood out as a leader who is focused on academic achievement, school culture, and serving the needs of all students."

Venetico has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Loyola University in Chicago, a master's degree in education from Benedictine University in Lisle, and a master's degree in principal preparation from Concordia University in Chicago.
