Buffalo Grove to spend $36,000 to let public know about roadwork

Buffalo Grove will spend as much as $36,000 on efforts to let the public know about upcoming road projects in the village - even though other public bodies are conducting the work.

The projects are the widening of Lake-Cook Road from Hastings Road to Raupp Boulevard and the widening of Weiland Road from Lake-Cook Road to Deerfield Road. The projects, led by the Cook County Highway Department and the Lake County Department of Transportation, respectively, are expected to begin in earnest next spring.

Village Engineer Darren Monico said Itasca-based Civiltech Inc. will assist the village with general communication, including public meetings, website hosting, attending project meetings and the creation of mailings and handouts.

"I think communication on something like this is very important, because people aren't going to understand why they can't move around our village for the next couple of years," Trustee Joanne Johnson said. "I think it's a very sad commentary that we have to spend $36,000 for something that is not our doing and not our project, because the bodies that are running the project don't communicate properly," she added.
