Mount Prospect cop appointed to District 25 school board

Scott Filipek, a Mount Prospect police detective and member of the Illinois Air National Guard, was sworn in as an Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 school board member Thursday night.

Filipek, an Arlington Heights resident for the past five years, was chosen by board members to fill the seat left open by the resignation of Diana Chrissis. She stepped down last month after 11 years, citing an inability to continue meeting the position's time commitments with the amount of travel her job requires.

Filipek, a 12-year veteran of the Mount Prospect Police Department and 17-year member of the Air National Guard, said he wants to bring a school safety lens to the school board. He spent six years as the school resource officer at Prospect High School. He has two children who attend District 25.

His appointment lasts until the April 2019 election.
