Palatine woman arrested on drug charge
A Palatine woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after officers executed a search warrant Tuesday at a Palatine home where they recovered more than four pounds of hallucinogenic drugs.
Cook County Judge Marc Martin ordered Bozena Meyers, 42, held on a $75,000 I-bond, meaning she will be released from custody on her own recognizance.
Palatine police, U.S. postal inspectors and Homeland Security customs officers located a postal package whose contents included 1,400 gross grams of a substance that tested positive for dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, a drug that is similar to LSD, according to Cook County assistant state's attorney Jennifer Gates. Officials also recovered a plastic bag with 658 gross grams of a brown liquid similar to DMT, Gates said. Gross gram measurements take into account the weight of the packaging as well as the drug.
Meyers, who has no criminal background, could face up to 30 years in prison if she's convicted. She next appears in court on July 12.
