North Aurora woman to fill Dist. 129 school board vacancy

North Aurora resident Melody Saperston will fill a vacancy on the West Aurora District 129 school board.

The board chose her Monday night from a list of nine people who applied.

She will step in for Amie Thompson, who resigned in May. Saperston will serve through the end of April.

On a questionnaire from the district, Saperston said she is the mother of four students in the district. "Thus, I understand the need to address student learning issues, support needs, funding resources from an education aspect for students who excel as well as those who struggle," she wrote.

Saperston was president of the Schneider Elementary School PTO, and said she has volunteered for booster clubs and activities at Herget Middle School and West Aurora High School.

Asked what aspect of the district the board could improve, she wrote: "I would like to strengthen our public image within the surrounding areas. I am a proud parent and supporter of School District 129. However, I know far too many families that have moved out of our district because they heard and believed too many rumors how poorly our district performs."
