New principal for Plainfield Elementary in Des Plaines

Lisa Bucciarelli-Carlos has been named the new principal of Plainfield Elementary School in Des Plaines Elementary School District 62.

Carlos will replace Guillermo Heredia, who is moving out of state with his family. She most recently served as principal of Abraham Lincoln Elementary in Oak Park.

"I am humbled, honored and so happy to be selected as principal of Plainfield," Carlos said in an announcement of her hiring. "I am deeply impressed with the dynamic, innovative and outstanding work in District 62 and excited to be part of a student-centered, caring district. I am eager to meet the wonderful Plainfield community and look forward to being of service to the students, staff and stakeholders of Plainfield."

Carlos began her teaching career as a Spanish teacher at Brother Rice High School in Chicago in 1995. She went on to Hinsdale Central High School for 14 years as a Spanish and etymology teacher before becoming the Department Chair of World Language and English Language Learners in Elmhurst District 205. In 2013, Carlos went on to become an assistant principal in Chicago Public Schools and then principal in 2016 before landing at Abraham Lincoln Elementary in 2017.

Carlos has a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish and Education from Indiana University, a Master's degree in Spanish from Middlebury College, a Doctorate in Curriculum Studies from DePaul University and an Administration and Supervision graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.
