Palatine Fire Dept. offers free life jacket rentals

The Palatine Fire Department is teaming with the organization BoatU.S. to provide loaner life jackets that can be checked out for up to a week at no cost.

The fire department encourages families to use life jackets while vacationing near water, days at the local pool, boating, or for any water-related activity.

The life jackets are designed for children from 5 pounds to 90 pounds. The department has a limited supply in four sizes: infant, child, youth and young adult.

To check out life jackets, call the department at (847) 202-6340 or stop by one of its fire stations: Station 82, 1475 N. Hicks Road; Station 83, 987 E. Palatine Road; Station 84, 220 W. Illinois Ave.; and Station 85, 39 E. Colfax St.
