Rabid bat found in Naperville home

A bat removed from a residence in Naperville tested positive for rabies, police said Friday.

The little brown bat was taken Wednesday from a home on Salt River Court on the city's southeast side, police said in a Facebook post.

If you find a bat in your home or business, don't touch it, close the door to the room if possible, and call authorities, police said.

Naperville residents can call the police department's animal care and control unit at (630) 420-6178.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, typically less than 5 percent of bats tested are found to be rabid.
