Nine apply for vacancy on West Aurora school board

Nine people have applied for a vacancy on the West Aurora District 129 school board.

They include former board President Neal Ormond, who served on the board for 22 years before stepping away in 2017.

The other candidates are Melody Saperston, Brian Anderson, Paul Webster, Joe Grisson, Adrienne Holloway, Matt Mull, Tori Mull and Kevin McCabe.

Grisson ran for the board in 2017.

Holloway is chief innovation officer for Aurora. Matt Mull is the senior pastor for Aurora Advent Christian Church; Tori Mull is his wife.

The list of names was released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Daily Herald seeking the "letters of application and resumes" of applicants. According to the list, Ormond called to obtain an application packet, and the rest requested packets by email.

The district did not release copies of the applications.

The board began reviewing applications June 5.

The vacancy came when Amie Thompson resigned in mid-May. Her term expires in April 2019 and the person appointed will serve until the end of April.

Thompson had been on the board seven years.
