Algonquin Road in Des Plaines reopened after downed power lines

Temporary road closures were lifted near Algonquin and Elmhurst roads on the Des Plaines/Mount Prospect border after downed power lines were cleared, authorities said.

Des Plaines police said they started getting calls from residents before 4 p.m. Monday about power lines down on streets and resulting outages.

By 5 p.m., ComEd reported more than 600 customers without power on the west side of Des Plaines, according to the utility's online outage map. The map showed power was restored to the area by about 8 p.m.

Some of the outages were along the Algonquin Road corridor, forcing the closure of Algonquin between Elmhurst and Mount Prospect roads, police said. The road was reopened within a few hours, according to police.
