Man gets 3 years in prison for Antioch crash that killed girlfriend

A Wonder Lake man was sentenced to three years in prison for being impaired when he crashed a motorcycle in Antioch, resulting in the death of his fiancee.

Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti also sentenced Gary L. Rogers, 47, on Thursday to two years of mandatory supervised release after his release from prison, Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Michael Ori said.

Rogers is required to serve 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for good behavior credit while in prison, Ori said. Rogers received one day of credit for time he has already served in Lake County jail.

Rogers pleaded guilty March 21 to one count of aggravated DUI resulting in death.

Rogers, of the 5000 block of Hilltop Drive, was attempting a left turn on his motorcycle onto Route 59 from westbound Route 173 when he struck a curb at the traffic light island at 1:54 p.m. July 4, 2016.

The crash seriously injured passenger Traci L. Dotson, 45, of Wonder Lake. She was taken by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she later died.

An investigation determined Rogers was operating the motorcycle with a blood-alcohol level of nearly double the .08 legal threshold, authorities said.

He was released from custody after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bail.

Had he been found guilty at trial, Rogers could have been sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison.
