Geneva mayor to go 'Over the Edge' at Girl Scout rappelling fundraiser

An earlier version had an incorrect time. The event starts at 8 a.m.

Angry constituents may have dreamed of pushing Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns off a roof.

But he will go willingly Saturday, at the "Over the Edge 4 Girl Scouts" fundraiser at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles.

Burns will join Girl Scouts and others in rappelling down a 16-story building. He is a celebrity guest; the others get the privilege because they have raised $1,000 or more for Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois.

The money goes to the Financial Assistance Fund, which helps low-income girls pay for Scout memberships and program fees.

"Sir Edmund Hillary I am not," quipped Burns of his plan. When asked if someone had sponsored his drop, he replied "I suspect Malone Funeral Home."

"I will do anything to support the Girl Scouts and their mission," of raising strong, independent girls, Burns said.

The event starts at 8 a.m. Rappellers include the Elgin Police Department SWAT, at 9 a.m., and the Kane County SWAT at 1:15 p.m. Burns will step off at 10:30 a.m.

The resort is at 4051 E. Main St.
