Schaumburg library hosts summer history programs

Actors, authors, historians and journalists will bring history to life this summer in several programs at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

The programs are free, but require registration by calling (847) 923-3347 or signing up at SchaumburgLibrary.org. All are at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.

The programs kick off with "Bikes, Gas Buggies and Burma Shave" from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, June 4. Next is "Overlooked Americans: 20th Edition" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 8.

Those interested in DNA will enjoy "Identifying America's Fallen Heroes" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20.

In "Operation Freedom," from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, attendees will virtually experience the Berlin airlift of 1948/49.

Those drawn to murder mysteries won't want to miss "Mary Jane's Ghost" from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 11. For an intriguing story of massacre and mystery, residents can enjoy "Remembering the Romanovs" from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 16.

The library also will present a selection of programs celebrating Illinois' bicentennial.
