Kids playing outside Aurora home when shots fired

Five children ages 2 to 12 were playing outside an Aurora home Wednesday evening when a gunman opened fire on four men on the front porch, Aurora police said Thursday.

Police said no one was injured and no property damage resulted from the shooting around 6:10 p.m. on the 500 block of Iowa Avenue on the city's near west side.

The gunman was a passenger in a black Chevrolet HHR that was heading south on Iowa, police said. Shortly after the shooting, a vehicle matching that description was pulled over at Broadway and North and police questioned the four occupants: a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man. They were released without being charged pending further investigation.

In a second case in the city, an 18-year-old Aurora man was shot in the foot around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in a parking lot on the 1200 block of Fourth Street.

Police said the shots were fired from what was described as a newer dark-colored sedan that was occupied by more than one person. A 19-year-old man who was with the victim was not hit.

Police said the shooting wasn't reported until the two walked into an Aurora hospital around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Anyone with information about either of the shootings is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
