Des Plaines opening park, dedicating bench to Alderman Sayad

The Des Plaines Park District will officially open Blackhawk Park, 190 E. Golf Road, next to the Mariano's grocery during an opening ceremony Saturday, June 2.

The park, which was renovated in spring 2017 as part of the Mariano's project, has a modern playground, picnic pavilion and large open space for recreation. Recently, soccer goals and nets were installed.

The park also will have a bench dedicated to 4th Ward Alderman Dick Sayad.

"Dick was instrumental in securing the Mariano's project for Des Plaines," park district Executive Director Don Miletic said in a news release. "And all of the alderman, as well as the park district staff, felt it was a fitting tribute to Dick's many years of service to his ward, the city, and the park district."

The opening celebration will begin at 11 a.m. It will include soccer drills and game play directed by the Junior Warriors Soccer Club, and games with park district staff.
