Pregnant Carpentersville woman killed in crash

A pregnant Carpentersville woman died over the weekend after the car she was riding in was struck by a sport utility vehicle, authorities said Monday.

Rocio Hernandez-Balderas, 32, was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla heading east on Golfview Lane just before noon Saturday when it was hit by a GMC Yukon traveling north on Route 25, according to a news release from Carpentersville police.

The Toyota came to a stop when it hit a utility box in the northeast corner of the intersection, police said. The driver and four passengers, including Hernandez-Balderas, were taken to local hospitals after being extricated from the vehicle.

A passenger in the GMC also was taken to the hospital, officials said.

Hernandez-Balderas and her unborn child were pronounced dead later that afternoon, authorities said. Two other people remained hospitalized Monday.

Carpentersville police are investigating the crash.
