Parolee sentenced for break-in at Mount Prospect home where teen was alone
A parolee captured on video kicking open the front door of a Mount Prospect residence last July was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Scott A. Weissert, of the 1200 block of North Waterman in Arlington Heights, pleaded guilty to residential burglary, court records show.
Weissert, who has 18 felony convictions dating back to 1981, was on parole for a 2006 burglary when, police said, he "forcibly entered the residence" about noon on July 23, 2017.
A teenage girl was home alone at the time. She heard a stranger knocking on the door and called her mother, who was at work. The mother used a cellphone app to turn on a camera mounted on a home entertainment center that faced the front door. When the mother saw the door burst open, she called 911.
Meanwhile, the teen locked herself in an upstairs bedroom. When Weissert attempted to enter the room, the girl screamed and he fled.
Mount Prospect police subsequently released the video footage and received several tips identifying Weissert as a suspect.
Police obtained a warrant and searched his home on Aug. 2, 2017, where they recovered items connecting him to the burglary.
Weissert was ordered to pay $654 in fines. He received credit for 299 days in custody.
