Author Ryan to discuss heroin crisis at Oakton Community College

Tim Ryan, author of the best-selling book, "From Dope to Hope: A Man in Recovery," will discuss his heroin addiction as part of the Oakton Community College Continuing Education for Health Professionals' presentation, "Heroin: It's Not an Epidemic, it's a Pandemic."

The event, targeted for medical and health care providers, as well as other professionals, will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, in Rooms 1604-1610, at the college's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.

Ryan is the national director for Transformations Treatments Center in Florida, as well as the executive director of A Man in Recovery Foundation and an adviser at rehab.com. As the keynote speaker, he will explore who today's addicts are and how they get their hands on heroin, opiates and other substances.

Contrasting his own harrowing story, Ryan will offer real-life examples of families and kids he has helped find an addiction-free life through his foundation.
