Mount Prospect man dies 6 days after Des Plaines crash

A 73-year-old Mount Prospect man died Wednesday morning after being injured in a head-on collision in Des Plaines six days earlier.

Gus Stergios, of the 0-99 block of Marcella Road, died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge from multiple injuries suffered in the May 10 crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Two others injured in the same collision are stable, Des Plaines police Sgt. John Rice said.

The investigation has not yet determined the cause of the collision or whether either driver was at fault, he added.

Two vehicles collided at about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Northwest Highway and Rand Road.

Stergios was the driver of the vehicle he was in, Rice said. He and another person were taken to the hospital with serious injuries while a third person was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
