Man who eluded cops 3 times in one day now in DuPage County jail

A Villa Park man who authorities said escaped from police three times Monday was securely in DuPage County jail on Tuesday.

Timothy Jackson, 26, of the 300 block of N. Ardmore, is being held on $500,000 bail after being charged with escape from a peace officer, resisting or obstructing arrest, driving with a suspended license, theft by deception, and criminal defacement of property, among other things.

Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Lindt said Villa Park officers pulled Jackson over Monday afternoon for a traffic stop.

As they attempted to arrest him on five outstanding warrants, Lindt said, Jackson ran away.

"An hour later, police responded to a 911 call at an apartment building for a subject crawling into an open window of a laundry room," Lindt said.

It turned out to be Jackson.

As officers were putting a handcuffed Jackson into the rear of their squad, he again fled and ran down St. Charles Road until eventually being captured by other officers.

A short time later, while cuffed and being booked in the Villa Park police station, Jackson fled again. Lindt said the booking officer stepped out of the room momentarily and Jackson slipped out before the door closed completely behind the officer.

"The defendant again ran from custody and this time he got out of the police department," Lindt said. "(Jackson) was eventually found one and a half blocks away, in a backyard."

Police did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday.

Jackson's attorney said Jackson could post $1,000 and asked that bail be set at only $10,000.

DuPage Judge Robert Miller, however, said the likelihood of Jackson coming back to court if he posted bail is "remote."

Jackson is scheduled to be arraigned May 31.
