Dryer causes fire in Elgin home Monday

A dryer fire caused about $5,000 worth of damages to an Elgin home Monday night, authorities said.

Firefighters from the Elgin Fire Department were called to the 600 block of Packard Drive at 9:54 p.m., and met residents who said the dryer started on fire in the basement of the home.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, authorities said.

There were no injuries reported.

The home sustained minor fire and smoke damage.

The blaze remains under investigation.
