Schaumburg park employees hailed as heroes

Schaumburg Park District officials Thursday recognized Meineke Recreation Center staff members Dave Kinnard and Austin Keating for saving the life of a patron who had collapsed and stopped breathing a week earlier.

Meineke Center Manager Mike Wold related how both front counter attendants responded after being alerted to a man's collapse on the floor of the gym May 3.

"Relying on their safety training, the two jumped into action," Wold said. "Dave called 911 and summoned help. Austin responded to the patron and performed CPR, assisting the situation and checking the patron's pulse."

Keating's efforts continued until police and paramedics arrived and took over the ultimately successful efforts to revive the man.

"Without Austin and Dave's quick response, the man may not have survived," Wold said.
