New Lake Zurich beer garden gets name, tentative opening date

The new beer garden at Breezewald Park in downtown Lake Zurich is taking shape, and officials hope it will be ready by July 4.

The 400-square-foot beer pavilion is almost complete, and work will begin soon to build a deck around the structure. The village board approved spending about $28,500 on lumber for the deck at its meeting Monday night.

And the place now has a name: Sunset Pavilion.

“Since the beginning, this has been envisioned as a low-impact, quiet downtown amenity for the community to gather under the shady oak trees at Breezewald and enjoy a refreshing beverage while looking west over our beautiful lake,” said Kyle Kordell, assistant to the village manager. “We think the name Sunset Pavilion fits that image nicely.”

The village hopes the $157,000 facility, which was paid for by the developer of the nearby Somerset By The Lake luxury rental community, will attract people to the lake and to the downtown area.

The plan also includes providing tables and benches, umbrellas and Edison-style lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere at the pavilion.

Officials received three proposals from local restaurants to operate the pavilion: Beelow's Steakhouse, Bobbers and PB & S Investments LLC, the company that owns Scoreboard Bar and Grill. Kordell said the village likely will reveal the vendor will be later this month.
