Two people dead in Elgin shooting, one victim identified

Two people are dead after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Elgin, authorities said.

Officers responded at 2:08 p.m. to the 0-100 block of Longwood Places to find two people who had been hit by gunfire, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

One of the shooting victims was taken to Presence St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin before being transferred to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said.

The other was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, then was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified one of the victims Monday as Raymond Dyson, 29, of Elgin.

The other identity is still being withheld.

Two "persons of interest" are with detectives from the police department's Major Investigation Division, authorities said.

Police say there is no danger to the public.

An investigation is ongoing.
