Police: Man jumped from third-floor balcony trying to escape

A Libertyville Township man wanted for robbery tried to escape police officers by jumping from a third-floor balcony but was eventually arrested Thursday.

Lake County sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals went to a Waukegan apartment on the 2800 block of Glen Flora Avenue to arrest 32-year-old Harold A. Curtis.

Curtis, of the 26200 block of North Violet Drive, jumped to a second-floor balcony as police entered the apartment, authorities said. Deputies arrested Curtis on the second floor.

Curtis is charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery, residential burglary, robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, theft and reckless discharge of a firearm. The charges stem from an investigation by the North Chicago Police Department.

Court records show Curtis was held in Lake County jail for 60 days in 2017 for domestic battery, and one year in prison in 2015 for mob action.

He was ordered held in Lake County jail on $1 million bail, authorities said. He is due back in court Tuesday.
