Mundelein adds six long-term parking spots at Metra station

Six parking spots at Mundelein's Metra train station will be reserved for long-term parking starting Tuesday.

People using the reserved spots for up to seven days no longer will have to call the police department for permission to park in the lot overnight, which has been a requirement.

Parking in the same spot for more than seven consecutive days is prohibited. Exceptions can be granted by the police department if requested ahead of time.

People using the long-term spots still will have to pay the daily parking fee, in advance. The rate is $1.75 per day.

Mundelein's station is on Metra's North Central Service line, which runs between Antioch and Chicago's Union Station and includes a stop at O'Hare International Airport. Village officials decided to create long-term parking spots to attract people headed to O'Hare, Village Administrator John Lobaito said.

"Overnight parking would be useful for overnight business travel or personal travel needs," he said.

Signs declaring the spots reserved for long-term parking will be posted in the lot at 205 N. Archer Ave.

The village board approved the policy change Monday night.

The long-term parking spots are on the north side of the lot, spaces 29 through 35.

The lot has more than 500 spots and never fills up, so there won't be an impact on daily parking availability, Lobaito said.

"We wish the lot would fill up, but it doesn't," he said.
