Round Lake Park woman killed in Volo crash

A Round Lake Park woman was killed Wednesday when the vehicle she was driving entered an opposite lane and struck another vehicle in Volo, authorities said.

The 24-year-old victim was driving a white sedan westbound on Route 120 at about 12:23 p.m. when it crossed into the eastbound lanes near Ellis Drive and struck a red sport utility vehicle driven by a 55-year-old woman from Gurnee, police said Thursday.

The victim was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are withholding the name of the deceased pending notification of family.

Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said the woman died of multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the crash. He added the death remains under investigation pending results of toxicology tests.

Authorities said two off-duty paramedics were administering CPR to one of the injured when sheriff's deputies arrived.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's Technical Crash Investigations Team.
