Celebrating the arts: Third place winners in Arts Unlimited contest

On Thursday and Sunday we shared the first- and second-place winners of the Arts Unlimited District 214/Daily Herald Community Arts and Writing Contest.

Today, we are proud to present the third-place winners.

Come meet the artists and see all the incredible work submitted for both the Community Art and Writing Contest and the student contest. The reception will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. Attendance is free.

The winners are as follows:

Visual art

Judged by artist Gary Drake, former art teacher at Hersey.

1st place: "Lyric ... Gateway" by Bev Ottaviano, Arlington Heights

2nd place: "7th Arrondissement of Paris" by Kayla Wasielewski, Arlington Heights

3rd place: "Dazed and Confused" by Chantal Montesinos, Des Plaines

Prose

Judged by William Leece, author and retired English teacher.

1st place: "Untouchable" by Jodie Hermann, Arlington Heights

2nd place: "Stars" by Amiya Kishore

3rd place: "German Day" by Hope Wiley, Rolling Meadows

Poetry

Judged by Jeff Arena, poet and educator.

1st place: "Twisted Sickness" by Kayleigh Padar, Prospect Heights

2nd place: "Take, Eat" by Courtney K. Lang, Arlington Heights

3rd place: "The First Woman, The Bottom of the Sea" by Josephina Levin, Wheeling

Honorable mention: "A Red Leaf" by Emily Kyle, Arlington Heights
