Glen Ellyn church packs food to help those in need

More than 1,000 volunteers are spending part of their weekend at Glen Ellyn Bible Church with the goal of packing 272,160 meals for the Feed My Starving Children program.

Teams began work Friday and will continue through Sunday. Organizers say the project gives members of the congregation a chance to demonstrate their compassion and to help others.

The church began hosting the annual packing events in 2014 on its campus at 501 Hillside Ave. and its members have packed more than a million meals. It raises money for the program through donations from church members, mobile pack participants and area businesses.
