Waukegan police say teen was pointing fake firearm

Waukegan police took a 13-year-old into custody after he pointed what turned out to be a fake firearm at homes Wednesday morning, according to a news release issued Friday night.

Police said that about 9 a.m., two officers were on the 900 block of Adams Street on an unrelated call when they saw the boy pointing what they believed was a firearm at homes as he walked down the block.

After the officers confronted him, the teen threw the firearm on the ground and ran. Officers caught up and arrested him.

The firearm turned out to be a fake.

The 13-year-old was charged with violating school curfew and resisting arrest.
