Woman dies after crashing into tree in Elgin

A 47-year-old woman died after her car struck a utility pole in Elgin, police said.

Police said the woman was driving west on McDonald Road in Elgin about 6:40 p.m. Thursday when she lost control and struck a utility pole. The driver was taken to Presence St. Joseph's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said they are withholding the driver's identity until her relatives can be notified. Anyone with information on the crash should call Elgin police at (847) 289-2661.
