3 injured in seven-vehicle crash in Elgin

A driver who caused a chain reaction of crashes after he rear ended a vehicle Thursday morning in Elgin was ticketed for failing to reduce speed, officials said.

Seven vehicles were involved in the crash at about 6:40 a.m. on northbound Randall Road at Route 72 (Higgins Road), Elgin police spokeswoman Kristie Hilton said.

A 53-year-old from Carpentersville rear-ended the last vehicle in a line stopped at the red light there, she said.

The Carpentersville man and a 27-year-old man from Sleepy Hollow and a 28-year-old man from St. Charles were taken to a hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, she said.
