Car driver ticketed in crash at Elk Grove Village gas station

Elk Grove Village police have ticketed the driver of a car involved in a collision Friday that caused a semitrailer to crash into a Marathon gas station.

The 34-year-old Schaumburg man driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left, Deputy Chief Michael Gaspari said.

Investigators determined that the 23-year-old Des Plaines man behind the wheel of the semitrailer tried to avoid the Volkswagen before striking a gas pump island at the Marathon, 1195 Rohlwing Road, Gaspari said.

The gas station was closed at the time of the early morning crash, and no one was taken to the hospital, police said.
