Woman charged in death of Des Plaines man killed on I-80

A Country Club Hills woman was being held in jail Tuesday in connection with a crash Friday on Interstate 80 that killed a Des Plaines man.

Chiquita Roundtree, 29, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence involving death, Illinois State Police said. She is being held on $30,000 bond, according to Cook County jail records.

Roundtree was driving a 2014 Infiniti also occupied by James Michael, 37, of Des Plaines, east on I-80 at the intersection with Interstate 294 about 2 p.m. Friday when she lost control and sideswiped a gray 2006 Pontiac sedan, state police said.

While spinning out, the Infiniti rear-ended a gray 2006 Nissan car and flipped, police said.

Witnesses told investigators the Infiniti was traveling at least 100 mph before it crashed, according to state police.

Michael was pronounced dead at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. Roundtree was also taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
