Woman pleads guilty to Mount Prospect parking lot robbery

The second of two people who police say grabbed a woman's purse in a Mount Prospect parking lot, then dragged her with their car when she refused to surrender it, pleaded guilty to robbery.

Kyra Santiago, 25, of Cary, was sentenced to three years in prison in exchange for her plea. Her co-defendant, Thomas Nowakowski, 26, of Cary, pleaded guilty to robbery in December in exchange for a three-year prison sentence.

The 46-year-old victim was loading items into her car in the Walmart store parking lot at the Mount Prospect Plaza at about 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, 2017, when a car pulled into the space beside her, according to prosecutors. Nowakowski got out of the passenger's side, took the woman's purse from her shopping cart and returned to the car. The victim ran after the car driven by Santiago, grabbed her purse and was dragged about 400 feet, prosecutors said. She suffered a cut on her head and abrasions to her arms and legs, authorities said.

Police identified the defendants through license plate information.

Santiago, who was ordered to pay $649 in fines, received credit for 246 days in custody.
