17-year-old arrested on gun charges in Aurora

A 17-year-old from Yorkville was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Aurora on weapons charges.

About 4 p.m., while checking a vehicle at an apartment building on the 2000 block of West Illinois Street, officers smelled burned cannabis coming from inside the car, according to the Aurora Police Department.

According the police, the teenager, who tried to run, was found to have a loaded 9mm handgun, a stun gun and cannabis.

The Kane County state's attorney's office has charged the teenager with unlawful possession of a handgun as well as two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He also has been charged with three misdemeanors.
