Werfel wins Lake County Dist. 6 GOP race

Incumbent Jeff Werfel leads newcomer Bob Bednar in the Republican primary for the Lake County Board's District 6 seat, according to the unofficial results Tuesday.

If his lead holds, Werfel, 55, of Grayslake, will face off in the November general election against Democrat John Wasik, who was unopposed in the primary. Werfel is seeking his second term.

With all 26 precincts reporting, Werfel received 930 votes, and Bednar collected 550 votes. Those totals do not include votes cast early.

Bednar, 61, of Grayslake, is a professional school bus driver with a background in banking.

Werfel previously served on the Grayslake Village Board for 11 years.

The 6th District contains the western portion of Grayslake and all of Hainesville.
