Voters rejecting York Fire tax increase request

York Center Fire Protection voters opposed a property tax increase proposal that officials said was needed to improve minimum staffing levels and replace aging equipment.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results show the tax hike being dashed with 541 residents opposed and 316 voting in favor of the measure.

Officials said an extra $238,000 more a year was needed for the district, which serves part of Oakbrook Terrace and unincorporated areas near Oak Brook, Lombard and Villa Park. The tax increase would have cost an owner of a $200,000 house an additional $66 per year.
