O'Connor wins Democratic nod for Lake County clerk

Former Libertyville Township Trustee Robin O'Connor holds a big lead in the Democratic primary race for Lake County clerk, according to unofficial results Tuesday.

With 96 percent of precincts reporting, O'Connor has 22,883 votes, while Vernon Township Trustee Adam Broad received 9,682 votes. The vote totals do not include ballots cast early.

If her lead holds, O'Connor, a retired Illinois teacher who now teaches in Wisconsin, would face Republican incumbent Carla Wyckoff in the November general election. Wyckoff was unopposed in the primary election.

O'Connor said she developed management and leadership skills needed to lead the office during her career as an educator. She would like to increase voter registration by expanding early voting.
