Bridge truss removal to begin Monday in Libertyville

Work to remove and scrap the decorative steel truss on the Rockland Road bridge over the Des Plaines River in Libertyville is set to begin Monday. The bridge, which is co-owned by the village and Libertyville Township, has been closed and traffic detoured to Route 176 since Feb. 1 because of deterioration of the truss and potential danger to vehicles or pedestrians. A state review showed the century-old truss no longer is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places and the project was cleared to proceed. The work is expected to take five to seven working days.

Continuing bridge closure wears on Libertyville officials
