Two Wheaton schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning as a precaution while police searched for a man suspected of having a knife near Gary Avenue and Geneva Road, authorities said.

DuPage County sheriff's deputies took the man into custody around 9:30 a.m. A sheriff's office spokesman did not immediately return a message seeking more details.

Wheaton North High School, Carl Sandburg Elementary School and St. Mark's parish were placed on lockdown.
