Harper College wins award for international program

Harper College is one of eight universities and colleges in the U.S. to receive a 2018 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization, NAFSA: Association of International Educators announced Tuesday.

Named after the late Sen. Paul Simon of Illinois, the award recognize outstanding innovation and accomplishment in campus internationalization.

Harper received the Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award, for its Global Region of Focus Initiative, a three-year cycle of interdisciplinary programs and area studies centered around a region of the world. The first year features a professional development Faculty International Field Seminar, including coursework and travel to the region, followed by a Visiting Faculty Lectureship in the second year, and student study abroad experiences in the third year.

Other winners include Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts; St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York; Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York; Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas; University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida; Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio; and the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
