Milwaukee Avenue reopened after accident downs power lines

A section of Milwaukee Avenue in southern Lake County is now open after a car accident knocked power lines onto the street.

Police said an 83-year-old man from Des Plaines was driving north in the left lane of Milwaukee Avenue between Lake-Cook Road and Deerfield Road near Riverwoods when his silver Toyota Camry hit the curb and went airborne. The car hit two poles and knocked live power lines into the street, causing police to temporarily close the road.

The man was transported to Northwestern Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, officials said. The man was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage, according to police.

The road was reopened after removing the downed power lines, police said.
