Teens to meet in Villa Park to discuss school safety

The topic of school safety has probably never been more prevalent and several hundred local high school students are about to join the conversation.

On Monday morning, about 400 high school student leaders from 30 area high schools will converge on Willowbrook High School in Villa Park to discuss strategies to keep themselves safe during a tragedy.

"In light of the recent tragic incidents in Florida and Kentucky, we are hosting this event to provide students with an opportunity for their voices to be heard in a productive and impactful manner," DuPage High School District 88 spokeswoman Danielle Brink wrote in a prepared statement.

Through the forum, Brink said, participants will share their voice and thoughts on national issues, leave with an action plan to take back to their school and have an opportunity to speak with local and state civic leaders and legislators, as well as area first responders.

The students will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
