A Cary man in jail on a contempt of court charge took his own life in the McHenry County jail in November, the coroner's office announced Thursday.

Thomas Doheny, 51, was found unresponsive in his cell at 8:12 p.m. Nov. 17, according to a news release, which stated the cause of death was asphyxia.

Officials said jail guards on rounds discovered Doheny. Guards performed lifesaving measures before Doheny was taken to Centegra Hospital Woodstock.
