No injuries from fire in Elgin apartment complex

No one was injured in a small fire in an Elgin apartment complex Wednesday, authorities said.

Crews arriving at the complex on the 300 block of Kathleen Drive at 6:40 p.m. found light smoke from a stove fire in one of the apartments in the 12-unit complex, authorities said.

Firefighters determined the fire had traveled above the drywall and into the attic of the building.

The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, authorities said. Crews then checked the entire building to get residents out and ensure there was no fire anywhere else.

There were working smoke detectors in the building, authorities said.

Two families were displaced due to the fire and stayed with relatives.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
