Jail guard pleads not guilty to inappropriately touching female employee

A Lake County jail corrections officer pleaded not guilty Monday to allegations he inappropriately touched a female contract employee who also was working at the jail.

Darin Chansky, 49, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, faces one misdemeanor count of battery and up to one year in jail for touching the buttocks of a female Aramark Food Service employee, authorities said.

The inappropriate touch was alleged to have occurred in the presence of inmates last month.

Defense attorney Elliot Pinsel said the case will most likely end in "a jury trial later this summer." He would not specifically comment on the allegations.

Chansky, a 22-year Lake County sheriff's office employee, turned himself in Feb. 26, shortly after a judge set a $20,000 warrant for his arrest. He has been released from jail on his signature.

Sheriff Mark Curran said that during the criminal investigation, officials interviewed Chansky, the victim, inmates and witnesses.

The Aramark employee also said Chansky made an inappropriate sexual gesture toward her in the presence of inmates in December.

Chansky will remain on leave with pay until the conclusion of the administrative investigation.

He is next due in court March 26 for a pretrial conference.
