Illinois secretary of state distributes books at Dundee Library

Children attending storytime Thursday morning at the Dundee Library received a special visit from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.

White, also the state librarian, distributed board books to the roughly 25 kids who participated in the Fox River Valley Library District's Wonderful Ones program.

The books were given out on behalf of the Illinois Literacy Foundation, a nonprofit that supports literacy efforts, resources and projects throughout the state. The library district has participated in the foundation's grant programs in the past, library Executive Director Roxane Bennett said.

"It was a wonderful opportunity to emphasize the importance of books and reading to our littlest patrons and their caregivers," she said. "We were happy to host this event and connect the organization to children getting ready to read."
