Volo man killed in Fox Lake motorcycle crash identified

Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died Tuesday night after crashing in Fox Lake.

Spurgeon D. Dyke, a 62-year-old Volo man, died from multiple traumatic injuries suffered in the single-vehicle crash, according to the Lake County coroner's office. Toxicology results are pending, authorities said.

Dyke was driving his 2013 Harley-Davidson south on the Route 12 frontage road approaching the curve near Big Hollow Road when he crossed the road and struck a guard rail about 6:15 p.m., police said.

The crash threw Dyke off the motorcycle.

Big Hollow Road, west of Route 12, and the frontage road were closed for three hours after the crash.

The Fox Lake Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assist Team are investigating. Anyone who might have witnessed the crash should call (847) 587-3100.
