Man fired at officer, fled traffic stop in Elmhurst, source says

Elmhurst police say they are searching for a man who fled a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon. Officers stopped a vehicle at York Road and Crestview Avenue. The driver of the car fired shots at the officer and the officer fired back as the car sped away, a law enforcement source said. Full story.

Lake County receives another donation of anti-opiod drug

A Virginia-based pharmaceutical company announced Tuesday it was going to donate around 3,500 auto-injectors of naloxone, the anti-overdose drug that Lake County officials credit for saving 245 lives since Christmas Day 2014. Kaleo has already donated more than 10,000 auto-injectors to Lake County since 2014. Full story.

Cook treasurer candidates debate oversight of assessor

Whether the office of Cook County treasurer should audit the county assessor - or be rolled into that of the county clerk - are two more issues on which the Democratic candidates for the position disagree. Aurora police are searching for a man who tried to sexually assault a woman in her apartment complex Monday night, officials said. A 30-year-old woman said she was doing laundry at her apartment complex's laundry room when she was approached by a man who tried to strike up a conversation with her and when she ignored him, he forced her into an apartment and claimed he was armed with a knife. Carpentersville resident facing gun, drug charges

A Carpentersville man who police say had a gun and cannabis in his car was charged with three felonies. Daniel Saavedra, 27, was charged with armed violence, possession of cannabis, and intent to sell cannabis. Full story.

Kuma's Corner to hold fundraiser to support music school

Kuma's Corner, a heavy-metal-themed burger restaurant in Schaumburg, is holding a fundraiser Thursday to support Merit School of Music. The eatery, at Woodfield Village Green along Golf Road, will donate a portion of its beer sales from 5:30 to 11 p.m. to the not-for-profit music school that serves about 5,000 children in Chicago and the suburbs. Surgery set for White Sox prospect Burger's ruptured Achilles tendon

In Monday's Cactus League game against the Athletics, third baseman Jake Burger ruptured his left Achilles tendon running to first base after hitting a routine groundball. He is scheduled to have surgery in Chicago on Thursday and is out for the season. Full story.

Rozner: Chicago Blackhawks should play Corey Crawford ASAP

Daily Herald sports columnist Barry Rozner writes in his column that "if the Blackhawks deem him injury-free, it's absolutely best for everyone involved if Crawford takes the ice again before the Hawks hit the golf course. When pressed on it Monday, GM Stan Bowman did not wade too deeply, saying that it's up to Crawford "once the doctors step out of the way." Full column.
